Mentor Application:
A Wagon Box Resident Mentorship is an opportunity to direct the work of a resident remotely. This can be quite rewarding. The work may contribute to the Mentor’s own larger undertaking, particularly in the area of research or theoretical development of some idea. This is also a way for artists to share and propagate their creative talent and ideas, which is a good thing in itself but can also be a way of bringing energy into their own creative output.
Mentors commit to an initial conversation with the resident to review the scope, direction and shape of the project, check in with them after the first and second week, and review the resident’s work at the end of the third week of residency, with feedback. Minimum time commitment for the month is 5 hours; maximum of 10.
Mentors receive $1000 for each resident month, as well as membership as a Wagon Box fellow which affords certain benefits. Mentors and their own project will also get mention with any publication of their resident’s work. Mentors get access to the Wagon Box Network.
The Wagon Foundation is interested in hosting mentored resident projects in a wide spectrum of fields. Below are sample residency projects. Prospective Mentors may suggest their own residency project. Residencies must be funded by a patron. Mentors can be helpful in recruiting patrons for residency projects.
