SUMMARY:The Machine & (Human) Nature
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second annual The Machine and (Human) Nature retreat\, an intimate gathering at the Wagon Box in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains. Invited speakers include: Seneca Scott\, James Pogue\, Peter Allen\, and Eustace Conway. \n\n\n\nAt this small retreat\, we hope to wrestle with themes including the role of technology\, transhumanism\, and how to find meaning in the face of the ever-advancing machine. We would like to consider the effect the machine has had on families\, the environment\, autonomy\, and class politics. We would also like to discuss and showcase forms of creative resistance. \n\n\n\nThe discussions\, interviews\, and panels for this event will be co-created by attendees. By that\, we mean if you would like to speak\, run a workshop\, develop a panel\, or more\, this is your chance to have the stage and shape the discussion. More details on how to submit a session to come. \n\n\n\nIn addition to the talks\, we hope to have plenty of activities on offer. Last year\, the retreat included cold plunges in the creek\, followed by visits to the sauna\, trout fishing\, long walks\, sing-alongs\, and a spontaneous happy hour debate. We will also share some meals together\, with toasts and time to chat informally. The lodge kitchen will also be available for cooking. \n\n\n\nFamilies are welcomed and encouraged.

SUMMARY:North by Northwest 2024
DESCRIPTION:North by Northwest is a literary gathering in the Bighorn Mountains that is a collaboration between the Fraternal Order of the Wagon and the Other Life community. As the host\, Wagon welcomes Other Life allies to enjoy our headquarters here in Story\, Wyoming.  \n\n\n\nOur rustic resort is being curated for just this sort of event. Folks can enjoy the outdoors\, with fresh mountain air\, horseback riding\, hiking\, fly fishing\, and the indoors\, where we have a fairly extensive library\, many nooks for reading or writing\, typewriters\, and no distracting TV screens. Our chief goal\, however\, is bringing people together\, over a good meal\, at the bar\, on a group walk\, around the campfire\, for conversation\, music\, and building friendships in a way that can only occur in person. \n\n\n\nWagon gatherings generally have a theme and light daily structure\, and all are welcome to join or to do their own thing. The theme of this gathering is “The Hidden Life.” It is spring in the Bighorns\, and in the mud of dead leaves and sticks beside the rushing melted mountain snow\, green shoots are springing up\, we know not how. Despite the scent of decay around us\, in institutions\, ideas\, and in our own lives\, life springs up\, indeed it is spread out upon the earth\, but some do not see it.  \n\n\n\nThe kingdom of heaven\, parallel systems\, the anonosphere\, cryptids\, courageous nobodies: much is hidden behind the decaying façade of the mainstream and Latest Thing\, is it full of life? Lots of angles for discussion. \n\n\n\nOur days begin with a plunge in the creek\, followed by the sauna\, then morning and afternoon scheduled discussions/presentations. There is usually some music in the evening. A schedule and some of the discussions and topics will be out before the event. \n\n\n\nIf you have anything you would like to share\, particularly relating to the hidden life (what doesn’t?) feel free to connect. \n\n\n\n‍ \n\n\n\n‍

SUMMARY:Homesteading Symposium 2024

There are as many paths as there are people\, and family and community play a big role.  \n\n\n\nThe parallel project is a matter of direction. Most of us still rely on big systems\, but we can move more and more toward ones that work alongside the mainstream but are smaller and nearer. \n\n\n\nYou may be interested in this symposium if you: \n\n\n\n\nValue resilience\, simplicity\, growing your own food\, off-grid life\, preparedness.\n\n\n\nDon’t fully trust giant pharmaceutical and agricultural companies to keep you healthy.\n\n\n\nDesire to build durable friendships with people who share your values.\n\n\n\nDesire to understand the forces that control your basic daily activities.\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers will include farmers/homesteaders\, off-grid practitioners\, homeschoolers\, and other folks who are developing legal and wholesome ways to build a more local and resilient culture. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhat to Expect\n\n\n\n\nHear and share what is working for all types of Homesteaders.\n\n\n\nWays to go Off-grid.
